The cabinet on Tuesday approved a budget of 3.95 billion baht to stimulate tourism, including 2.02 billion baht for accommodation discounts and food tour vouchers from February to September.

The fifth phase of the “We Travel Together” scheme will allow Thai applicants to book 560,000 nights of hotel rooms, said deputy government spokesperson Anucha Burapachaisri.

The government will cover 40% of the room rate, but not more than THB 3,000 per room, per night. Each applicant is allowed a stay of 5 nights.

Entrants over the age of 18 will also receive a 600 baht voucher for meals and tours per day. Offer will be available nationwide.

According to Anucha, the program should benefit about 11 million workers in the tourism and related sectors and bring in 12.5 billion baht in circulation to the national economy.

The remaining 1.93 billion baht of the budget will be used to facilitate travel by Thai and foreign tourists domestically, especially to secondary destinations.

Anucha said the amount will fund tourism promotion campaigns and tourism-related product development.
